What does Canvas do?

With Canvas, business teams no longer need to know SQL or rely on data teams for help:
  • Answering ad-hoc questions 🔭
  • Building and maintaining dashboards 📊
  • Automating existing manual spreadsheets 🤖

What does Canvas connect to?

Canvas connects to most data warehouses (Snowflake, Redshift, Postgres), as well as dbt.

How long does it take to learn Canvas?

It generally takes an analyst around ten minutes to understand the concepts of Canvas, and another hour for it to feel natural.

Who is a user in Canvas?

A user is anyone with their own login access to Canvas. All editors in your Canvas account are billed at the same plan rate per month. You can learn more about our pricing here:

Who uses Canvas? Data teams or business teams?

Data teams are typically responsible for connecting Canvas to their company's data sources and helping with complex data questions. Business teams are the primary end-users of Canvas.

How does Canvas compare to other BI tools?

Our misison at Canvas is to change the way business teams work with both data and data teams. We don’t want to continue the trends of building faster request & response workflows. Instead, Canvas gives business teams all of the power of SQL in spreadsheet form. If business teams get stuck, they can collaborate with data teams in real-time on the same data via SQL or spreadsheets.
Does Canvas allow users to update data in my data warehouse or dbt project?
Nope! Canvas never accesses data that you don't request, never writes to your warehouse, and never stores your data. You can read more about our security practices here.

Which browsers does Canvas support?

Chrome, Firefox, and Safari are all fully supported.
